Just a lowly SLK. With lowly silver paint.
But its hiding a secret.
A 6MT!
...I still think the 1st gen was best gen.

There’s a reason you don’t see this everyday - it’s terrible. I test drove a 1st gen SLK when new. It was quite a feeling of trust when the salesman handed me the keys so a friend and I could drive it without him being present - the first time I had ever encountered that on a test drive.
“Broomstick in a bucket of ice cubes” was the best description I read to describe the shifter quality. All of my VWs and BMWs had manual transmissions, including the E34, and so does my current minivan. That SLK was the first time I ever drove a car where I thought that the automatic was the better choice, so needless to say I didn’t buy one. It is not a car meant for fun.

Yeah, Mercedes doesn’t put any effort into manuals. It almost feels if they’re throwing their hands up and screaming “are you happy now, dammit!?”.

Those are the best DDs.

The problem with buying a Mercedes is that BMW exists

My tax guy owned a Magma Red 6MT SLK. He passed away in 2016 and his wife sold it. I wish I would have had the money for that car...and I wasn’t too tall to fit inside it.

This gen SLK55 AMG IS the hidden gem.

Yes...unless you’re that car crazy Sultan who gets custom orders from manufacturers. I bet he has either SLK63 version with the 6.2L NA or 4L TT.
Or both.

Lol I like that description! This generation is better, but still not something a reasonable person would describe as sporty or engaging.

Are you referring to just the shifter or the car in general? My vote is for the latter, and is the reason I got a 968 instead. It’s a nice enough car to cruise and be seen in, just one that doesn’t make you long for twisty roads or challenging corners.

The original SLK, definitely not sporty. The in this post, handles much much better and could actually maybe be described as fun, but not with a manual.
